Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about learning with iLab — Islamic Laboratory Uganda.

What is iLab?

iLab (Islamic Laboratory Uganda) is an online Islamic learning platform run by Dar Al Maswadir Islamic Foundation in Kampala, Uganda. It offers live Quran memorisation, Tajweed, Fiqh, Aqeedah, Seerah, Hadith and Arabic language classes taught by certified scholars.

What does iLab stand for?

iLab stands for "Islamic Laboratory". Like a laboratory, it is an active space for experimentation and hands-on learning — students practise recitation, explore the Islamic sciences, and build mastery through consistent, repeated practice rather than passive lectures.

Is iLab free to join?

Yes. Creating a student account on iLab is completely free and takes under two minutes. You only need an email address to register. A subscription is needed to attend course classes — see the pricing page for current plans.

How much does iLab cost?

iLab offers three subscription plans: 1 month for UGX 95,000 (≈ $26), 2 months for UGX 180,000 (≈ $49) and 3 months for UGX 255,000 (≈ $69). Each plan unlocks every live class. US dollar prices are approximate and billing is in Ugandan Shillings. Full details are on the pricing page.

What classes does iLab offer?

iLab offers Quran memorisation (hifz) with certified huffaz, Tajweed certification, and Islamic sciences including Fiqh (jurisprudence), Aqeedah (creed), Seerah (prophetic biography), Hadith and Arabic language. All classes are live online video sessions.

Who teaches on iLab?

All iLab classes are taught live by qualified, certified Islamic scholars and huffaz vetted by Dar Al Maswadir Islamic Foundation. Teachers apply through a dedicated application process and are approved before teaching.

How long are iLab classes?

iLab uses micro-learning: focused sessions of about 20 minutes. Short, repeated sessions activate the spacing effect, which produces better long-term retention than long lectures. Courses typically run for around 3 months.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. When you complete a programme you earn a verifiable certificate recognised by Dar Al Maswadir Islamic Foundation and partner institutions. Certificates can be verified online.

What if I miss a live class?

Every live session on iLab is recorded. If you miss a class you can replay the recording at your own pace from the lesson catalogue in your dashboard.

What language are iLab classes taught in?

English is the medium of instruction at iLab. Lessons, explanations and the platform are all in English, so students from any country can follow along — you do not need to speak Arabic or a local language to join. Quranic Arabic, Tajweed rules and key Islamic terms are taught and explained in English as you progress.

Can I join iLab from outside Uganda or from another country?

Yes. iLab is a fully online platform and classes are taught in English, so students anywhere in the world can join and learn. Whether you are in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America, Asia or elsewhere, you can attend live video classes, study at your own pace and earn certificates — all you need is an internet connection.

Can I join iLab from anywhere?

Yes. iLab classes are online and taught in English, so you can join from anywhere in Uganda or from any country in the world. For remote communities with limited electricity, iLab also operates solar-powered learning labs with offline-capable tablets.

How do I become a teacher on iLab?

Qualified scholars can apply through the teacher application page at ilab.damuganda.org/app/register/teacher. After submitting your profile and documents, the Dar Al Maswadir team reviews and approves qualified applicants.

What schedule options are available?

iLab runs three schedule tracks: a day track with morning sessions, an evening track for professionals, and a weekend track on Saturdays and Sundays. You choose the course that fits your life when you enroll.
