1. Who we are

iLab (Islamic Laboratory) is an online Islamic learning platform operated by Dar Al Maswadir Islamic Foundation, Kampala, Uganda ("iLab", "we", "us"). This policy covers our website (ilabug.com) and our mobile applications (the "Services").

2. Information we collect

Account information: your name, email address, phone number, country, gender and, where you provide them, date of birth and a profile photo.

Learning profile: your learning goals, class-time availability, enrolments, attendance, progress, level placements, exam results and certificates.

Payment records: your subscription plan, payment status and transaction references. Payments are processed by Pesapal; we never receive or store your card or mobile-money credentials.

Device information: a push-notification token (so we can send class reminders) and basic crash and usage diagnostics that help us keep the app working well.

3. Microphone and camera

Live classes: when you join a class, your microphone and camera are used for real-time audio and video with your teacher and classmates. Classes may be recorded so enrolled students can review the lesson; recordings are available only to the class participants, teachers and academy staff.

Qur’an recitation follow-along: when you use the Recite feature, your microphone audio is streamed to our recitation service and analysed in real time to highlight the verse you are reading. This audio is processed transiently and is not stored or listened to by anyone.

Both features run only while you actively use them, and the app always asks for permission first.

4. How we use your information

To provide the Services: scheduling and running live classes, tracking your learning progress, issuing certificates and managing your subscription.

To communicate with you: class reminders, schedule changes and important account notices, delivered by email, in-app mailbox and push notifications. You can adjust notification preferences in your account.

To improve the Services: aggregate, de-identified usage and crash analytics.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

5. Who we share it with

Service providers who process data on our behalf: Pesapal (payments), Google Firebase (push notifications, analytics and crash reporting), our video-conferencing infrastructure (self-hosted and Cloudflare RealtimeKit) and our email delivery provider. Each receives only what it needs to perform its function.

Your teachers and academy staff see the learning information needed to teach and support you (for example attendance and progress).

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our students and staff.

6. Children

Many of our students are children learning with the consent and involvement of a parent or guardian. Guardians can manage a child’s learning through family accounts and may contact us at any time to review or delete a child’s information.

7. Data retention and security

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, meet legal obligations and resolve disputes. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access is restricted to authorised staff.

8. Your rights

You may access and update your profile in the app or website at any time. You can request a copy of your data, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion of your account and associated personal information by emailing us. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will update this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
